Posted in Art on 23.09.10

Good quality artist brushes allow an artist to capture his artistic imagination on canvas. Therefore it becomes imperative that the he uses brushes are specific to the type or genre of painting he does.

Loew Cornell Brushes , a premier brand of paint brushes offers great choice in the bristle-types. The following are some of the fast moving natural varieties-

  1. Kolinsky: is the highest grade of paintbrush. Made of fine red sable, these brushes have great bounciness, strength and are absorbent. These make fabulous watercolor paintbrushes.
  2. Red Sable: Weasel hair paintbrushes are tensile and allow for fine pointing of the paintbrush. Such paintbrushes are ideally suited for smooth, even strokes and mixing oils as well as watercolor.
  3. Ox: Their hair has a silken quality and forms the bulk of the moderately priced brushes.
  4. Goat: Hair ensures greater absorbency and is soft. It has a wiry character and is priced reasonably.
  5. Squirrel – This kind of hair allows great absorbency.  The fine hair tips allow for precision pointing of the brush tip. However they are not bouncy as the red sable.
